It was the chocolate chip pancakes
I would make for you on summer mornings
But I had to be careful with how many chocolate chips
You did not like sweet things
And every time we made bacon
the smoke alarms would go off
And the cats would escape for the terrace door
It was the strawberry kisses on cool June days
Going to the supermarket with your dad
Only to pick out that one specific kind of orange juice
It was walks in Central Park at night
Where we would lie on the great lawn looking up
at the stars
Or sit on the rocks by the castle, looking down at
the water
But these memories deceived me...
