Deceiving Memories

It was the chocolate chip pancakes

I would make for you on summer mornings

But I had to be careful with how many chocolate chips

You did not like sweet things

And every time we made bacon

the smoke alarms would go off

And the cats would escape for the terrace door

It was the strawberry kisses on cool June days

Going to the supermarket with your dad

Only to pick out that one specific kind of orange juice

It was walks in Central Park at night

Where we would lie on the great lawn looking up

at the stars

Or sit on the rocks by the castle, looking down at

the water

But these memories deceived me...
